Every day is R U OK? Day: How New Horizons shows up, all year round

This R U OK? Day (Thursday, 10 September 2026), Australians are being reminded that checking in on each other shouldn’t be reserved for one Thursday in September. The message, “Ask R U OK? Any Day” calls on all of us to make meaningful conversations part of everyday life, not just an annual event.

R U OK? Day research shows that a third of people don’t realise the difference they can make by checking in with someone they care about even though 9 in 10 of those who were asked “are you OK?” Report feeling grateful, cared about, and supported.

The research also shows that 1 in 4 people might hesitate to ask even when they think someone is struggling.

Support that doesn’t take a day off

At New Horizons, this is a philosophy we live by, not just talk about. For more than 55 years, we’ve delivered mental health support across NSW, and we know that real support isn’t a once-a-year gesture. It’s built through consistency, trust, and showing up when it matters, whether that’s in a moment of crisis or an ordinary day.

As one of NSW’s leading providers of government-funded mental health support, our teams deliver a broad range of programs every day, including:

Community Living Supports (CLS), a state-wide program (which brought together the former HASI and CLS programs from 1 July 2026) helping people with severe mental health conditions live and participate in their communities

Community Living Supports Refugee (CLSR), providing trauma-informed, culturally appropriate psychosocial support to refugees and people seeking asylum

i.am, NSW’s first co-produced suicide aftercare service for children and young people, supporting them through the critical period after a suicide attempt or crisis

headspace in Ashfield, Chatswood and Brookvale, supporting the mental, physical and social wellbeing of young people aged 12–25

Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program (CPS), offering short-term, non-clinical support for people experiencing significant mental health challenges

A trusted mental health provider

Over the past year, New Horizons has supported thousands of people across NSW, from metropolitan Sydney to regional communities including Port Macquarie, Tamworth and the Mid North Coast. Whether it’s helping a young person re-engage with school, supporting someone into stable housing, or simply asking a customer how they’re really doing, every interaction reflects the same underlying commitment: to walk alongside people on their mental health journey, wherever that journey leads.

R U OK? Day remains a vital national conversation starter, and one we’re proud to support.
