Peter Howell

Chairman of the Board

Peter is the Chair of the Board at New Horizons, having joined the organisation in 2010. He is a lawyer with a BA LLB, Notary Public, and membership in the Law Society of NSW. He is also a Fellow of the Australian and NZ College of Notaries and admitted as a Barrister and Lawyer in Fiji and Papua New Guinea. Peter is passionate about helping others and enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Angus Button

Board Director

Angus joined the New Horizons Board in April 2021. His personal experiences fuel his passion for supporting the mission. He co-founded Disruptech, introducing cybersecurity frameworks to the Asia-Pacific region. Angus is a recognised industry expert, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD), and partners with Crime Stoppers as their “Cyber-crime Prevention Partner.”                   

Robert Warry

Board Director

Robert is a financial services leader with over 20 years of experience. He founded Goal Financial Services, specialising in retirement planning, superannuation, investment strategy, insurance, and aged care financial advice. He is a registered adviser, a member of the FAAA and AICD, and holds leadership roles in community organisations. An avid endurance athlete, Robert supports organisations promoting financial wellbeing and healthy living.

Irene Howell

Board Director

Irene offers New Horizons a valuable combination of legal and operational acumen gained from a conveyancing law background and 30+ years in executive support. As a director, she focuses on ensuring strong compliance, strategic planning, and governance. Deeply committed to the organisation’s mission and the communities it supports, Irene is particularly passionate about enhancing the delivery of mental health services, drawing from her understanding of the challenges individuals face.

Julie Powell

Board Director

Julie played a pivotal role in New Horizons’ early days, working alongside Charlotte Leung to establish its core services. As Rehabilitation Director and Policy Advisor, she spearheaded the development of a case management system that was later adopted nationally. Family is central to her life; she is married with two accomplished adult children. Julie holds a Master’s Degree by Research with a University Medal and enjoys literature, music, opera, theatre, and singing in her church choir.
