Meegan Cobner began her impactful career in the healthcare industry shortly after completing Year 12 in 1990. She took her first steps as an Enrolled Nurse in 1991 at Lady Davidson Hospital in Turramurra, where she had the privilege of caring for War Veterans. Meegan’s journey in the community and health sectors has been driven by a lifelong passion for nursing, a path encouraged by her mother at the age of 17.
In November 2001, Meegan joined New Horizons as a Support Worker. During her initial time at the organization, she played a vital role in rolling out the pilot HASI project, a program that continues to be a cornerstone of New Horizons’ service delivery today. She also contributed to the Boarding House Reform Scheme, paving the way for some of the organization’s current Supported Independent Living (SIL) properties.
After a fruitful period at New Horizons, Meegan pursued further education and earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree, becoming a Registered Nurse in 2009. Her time at Morisset Hospital allowed her to deepen her expertise in Forensic Nursing and to develop effective behavioral strategies for individuals living with mental health challenges and disabilities.
Meegan returned to New Horizons in 2010 as a Case Manager and steadily climbed the ranks to positions including Team Leader, Customer Service Manager, Regional Lead, and ultimately General Manager of Service Delivery & Operations. In her current role, she oversees the Welcome Centre and Allocations team, while also assisting with various innovative projects within the organization.
An interesting aspect of Meegan’s life is her personal connection to the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Her youngest son is neurodiverse, which has enriched her understanding as a caregiver and highlighted the complexities of navigating services for those with disabilities. He is currently pursuing a degree in Nuclear Medicine at university, showcasing the potential that lies within every individual.
Through her dedication and extensive experience, Meegan continues to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector.
